Nature’s Gift Permaculture Centre is an approved third year volunteer site where Volunteers are given an opportunity to practice permaculture & agroecology as well as work with the surrounding communities.
A natural partnership has developed between The Kusamala Institute of Agriculture & Ecology and Peace Corps, a US government agency that stations volunteers within rural communities in Malawi. Both organizations are committed to improving the lives of Malawians at the household level through community-supported activities. Working at Nature’s Gift Permaculture Centre, Peace Corp Volunteers (PCVs) have:
- Designed a natural medicine garden
- Planted a commercial food forest
- Implemented an agro-forestry project
- Secured a grant for work with a local cooperative.
Together, we are working toward creating a training programme to provide PCVs with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement community-based food and nutrition security projects using what resources are available in their host villages.
