We seek people that are positive, passionate and dedicated to designing, implementing and demonstrating solutions for a sustainable future. Our current team consists of a variety of working professionals, interns and volunteers with a wide range of experience.
Internships
Nature’s Gift Permaculture Centre offers a residential, guided internship for qualified, motivated and deserving candidates. You do not need to have experience in agriculture or permaculture to be an intern but you must have a willingness to learn and be able to commit to minimum of 3-6 months*. We will only accept applicants who can clearly communicate how the internship experience will help him / her to work toward life goals.
The internship programme presents great opportunity for people looking to gain relevent work experience, for students seeking an opportunity to put practice into theory, or for landowners who want to gain design & implementation skills. We can, and have, worked with universities and colleges (Malawian and international) to gain school credit for the time interns spend at NGP. Whether a student or not, we work with every intern to develop a comprehensive work & learning plan, matching his / her areas of interest with our current needs. This includes a wide range of topics and issues including, but not limited to:
- Staple production
- Agro-forestry
- Commercial / Market garden production
- Forest gardening & orchards
- Food, nutrition & environmental security policy
- Proposal & grant writing
- Community development
- Eco-building
If you are interested, please send us a letter of interest which clearly communicates how this experience will help you attain your life goals.
There is accommodation fee for interns.
* NOTE: For international interns, we recommend a 6 month internship where possible so that you may gain an understanding of Malawian culture as well as have time to explore the warm heart of Africa.
Volunteers
We are an official WWOOF host and offer short-term volunteering opportunities.
We ask for a minimum commitment of 2 weeks to begin with, though there is no limit on how long volunteers can stay for. We ask volunteers to first register with WWOOF and support their wonderful organization before requesting to volunteer with us. This also gives access to other WWOOF farms throughout the region.
Volunteers gain exposure to the work we do and are asked to contribute to our daily work around the Centre.
We provide basic accommodation, lunch during the workweek, and access to our gardens for all other meals. We ask volunteers to contribute $25 a week for general overhead expenses.
Please contact us for more information on our volunteering options.
Research
The Kusamala Institute for Agriculture & Ecology and Nature’s Gift Permaculture would like to partner with academic institutions, both nationally and from abroad, to conduct research into various aspects of permaculture and agroecology.
If you, or your organization, are interested in partnering for research purposes please contact us.
